People�s Republic of China Holes (seals on the earth) is comprised of 63 manholes photographed in and around Beijing and Shanghai in the summer of 2006 and assembled to make a square. The manholes have the same finality and imprint as the seals used on Chinese scrolls�casual and yet deliberate, important, but not the �main event�. Manholes, functional and below the eye�s purview, have their own texture, color, framing, personality and story that come alive in this piece.
